Bus hits tree after driver is assaulted and loses control

On any given day, in Seattle and around the country, it is a given that many people will be running late. Sometimes this causes people to do things they otherwise might not, such as exceed the speed limit while driving. It isn't just those behind the wheel however that behave in ways they might not if they were on time. In some cases their actions may be drastic enough to cause an accident.

This was displayed in the actions of a man on a city bus last week who feared that he would be late for work.

Washington nurses' unions urge hospitals to improve safety

An investigation by a public radio station revealed nurse's aides in the state of Washington suffer the most violence in the workplace.

The results found that health care workers are subjected to violence six times more than the state average. Emergency room and psychiatric ward caregivers are assaulted about 60 times more than the average worker. This type of violence in the workplace not only puts workers at risk of being physically injured, but it also puts them at risk of experiencing emotional pain and suffering.

Some of the most violent workplaces are hospitals, including Western State Hospital, where criminals are taken after deemed incompetent to stand trial. According to the president of the union for workers there, 313 assaults occurred in one year. The president did comment that more attacks do occur, but not all of the attacks are reported.

Elderly couple injured in burglary at Seattle apartment complex

Although crime does exist in Seattle, some assaults and attacks can easily be prevented by building owners who take proper security measures. Owners and managers of apartment complexes are responsible for providing adequate security for residents and visitors. This includes making sure that the building does not have any defect locks or security cameras, and ensuring that entryways are safe for occupants. A property owner's negligence to security concerns could put residents at risk of becoming victims of crimes.

On Saturday, one Seattle couple was seriously injured after a burglar busted into their apartment unit in the afternoon. According to police, the break-in occurred at a North Seattle apartment complex on 15th Avenue Northeast shortly before 5 p.m. Police arrived at the apartment building after several residents called 911 to report the incident. Residents said that a man was armed and was breaking into several units on the building's fourth floor. Witnesses also said that the man was threatening to kill occupants of the units.
