Beer pong is a favorite past time for many young, eager drinkers throughout the country, including the state of Washington. Essentially, two to four players take turns tossing ping pong balls into each other's cups. Those who are lucky enough to get a ball in their cup must drink a beer as quickly as possible. The ultimately goal of the game: get players as drunk as possible.

However, after playing beer pong at a local bar and becoming "extremely intoxicated", one man was hit by a car when attempting to cross a busy highway-and blames the bar.

He later filed suit against the bar alleging that the bar failed to properly monitor his beer consumption after allowing him to partake in the drinking game at one of their designated beer pong tables located inside the bar and, as a result, was injured in a car accident.

However, a court in New York disagreed and recently dismissed the case. Normally, bar owners and alcohol retailers are responsible for victims of drunk driving or car accidents caused by over served patrons. However, in this case, the patron himself was injured.

"Plaintiff voluntarily engaged in the drinking game facilitated by defendant's furnishings and consumed alcohol to the point of diminished capacity," said New York Judge Lucy Billings.

Although the man failed to prevail in this case, courts in other jurisdictions are bound to continue to address these types of incidents as more and more beer pong tournaments, including those in the state of Washington, become more and more prevalent.
